Jobs at risk in Easyjet cutbacks
Image
Budget airline Easyjet has said jobs are at risk as it plans to cut flights out of Luton airport.

The airline said it would consult on a reduction of the number of flight crews at its bases in Belfast, Bristol, Newcastle and London Stansted.

The airline also plans to close its base at East Midlands airport.

The decision comes amid a row over landing charges at Luton. Easyjet said it would look to relocate the flights to more "profitable bases" elsewhere.

BA "in talks to buy bmi"
Airlines dismiss report as "speculation"

BA has dismissed a report that it is in talks with Lufthansa to buy bmi.

It said it had "absolutely no comment to make whatsoever."

Bmi, which was taken over by Lufthansa in the summer, said the report in a UK national newspaper was "just speculation."

Lufthansa also said it had no comment.

Crowded skies as Lufthansa opens bmi books

Lufthansa, the German flag carrier, has opened the books at bmi and is offering rivals a chance to conduct limited due diligence on the British airline before a possible sale.

A number of airlines, including British Airways (BA) and Virgin Atlantic, are understood to have signed confidentiality agreements with Lufthansa.

Others, including Flybe, the regional carrier, and international airlines from the Middle East, Far East and the United States, are said to have expressed an interest in buying some of bmi’s assets, particularly its landing slots at Heathrow.

Airlines offer lightest fall schedules since 2001
DALLAS — The U.S. airline industry is shrinking to a size not seen since the months after the 2001 terror attacks.

The airlines have been trimming flights for the past two years, matching the falling demand for air travel. Additional capacity cuts are under way at American, the nation's second-largest carrier, and at No. 3 United.

It could get worse.

Most big airlines depend heavily on a relatively small chunk of passengers who pay the highest fares, ""and that's generally business travelers,'' says Robert Mann, an aviation consultant in Port Washington, N.Y. ""If business travel doesn't rebound, we're going to see further (capacity) cuts.''

Security proposals spell more air travel disruption
Millions of air passengers face at least two more years of travel disruption under European commission proposals to deal with security issues raised by the carrying of liquids after the transatlantic bomb plot.

A ban on carrying liquids in hand luggage will be lifted in 2012 for airports handling more than 10 million passengers a year, with smaller airports waiting until 2014, according to sources close to European security officials. That would mean a family travelling from Stansted to Barcelona-Girona in Spain from 2012 would be able to carry as much drink, shampoo and perfume as they wanted on the outbound journey, but would have to dump or check in the liquids on the return leg.

I to se događa. Tuča na letu kompanije Air India, kokpit vs. STW
Air India pilots, crew come to blows at 30,000 ft
NEW DELHI: The Maharaja witnessed his first in-flight Mughal-e-Azam at 30,000 feet above sea level on Saturday, as two members of the cabin
crew—one male and one female—slugged it out with the pilot and co-pilot.

Endangering the lives of 106 passengers and grossly violating safety norms, the airline staffers came to blows in the cockpit and galley of the Indian Airlines Airbus A-320 as the aircraft cruised over Pakistan en route to Delhi via Lucknow from Sharjah.

The cabin-vs-cockpit tiff originated on the ground in Sharjah itself and then turned into a full-blown fight once IC 884 took off soon after midnight.
